More than 400 barefooted Namibians have received new shoes through the Project Never Walk Alone Winter Drive on Friday.

The initiative, sponsored by the Road Fund Administration (RFA), reached children, adults and senior citizens at Dordabis, Groot Aub and Okahandja Park in Windhoek.

The drive started at Bloukrans Primary School near Dordabis where 100 children who did not have shoes received footwear, proceeded to Groot Aub and handed over shoes to 200 senior citizens, and ended with 200 children and adults at Okahandja Park.

The RFA’s Beaulah Garises describes the initiative as an effort to restore dignity among barefooted Namibians.

“The experience allowed us to realise that a pair of shoes means much more to a barefooted child,” she says.

The initiative was supported by Kasi Socks, which donated more than 400 pairs of socks to accompany the shoes.

In addition to the footwear, more than 1 500 people benefited from a meal and a drink during the day-long outreach.

Project spokesperson Nangula Mbako says the intiative goes beyond providing shoes, saying it aims to restore human dignity to people who do not have sufficient footwear.

She has expressed appreciation to the RFA for sponsoring the impactful winter drive.

“This drive allowed us to reach Namibians of all ages, and we are so grateful that we could find them, provide them with shoes and give them a sense of peace,” Mbako says.
