School bus runs to benefit from fuel subsidy

By Zoila Palma:  On May 3, 2026, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology announced that it is moving forward to support school bus operators who have been impacted by rising fuel costs.

Beginning immediately, and retroactive to 13th April 2026, the Ministry will provide a BZ $3.00 per gallon of diesel subsidy to all school bus operators.

The Ministry calculated the subsidy using an average fuel rate of 7 miles per gallon, applied to total route distances to standardize fuel estimates across varying routes and service frequencies.

The Ministry says that by easing fuel costs, this subsidy keeps buses on the road, students in school, and families confident in a reliable education system.
