Kristin Robinson:

Can everyone sing, if trained properly?

Eric Vetro:

Oh, absolutely not. No, no.

Ooh, okay, okay.

They can’t.

Thought it would be so interesting to talk to you about being a vocal coach to so many of the highest-performing singers in the game right now. You started working with Ariana when she was what?

About 13.

Thirteen?

Yeah, really young.

Okay. So what was your first impression of her?

Superstar. People don’t realize how much stress and strain there is on the human voice for these people. Most audience members just think, “Oh, they sing at night onstage for an hour and a half or two hours.” They don’t realize they do camera blocking, do a soundcheck, get in hair and makeup, then do the show, then maybe a pop-up meet and greet, then an interview. There is so much involved. So they’re using their voice the entire day.

I’ve heard before that taking a shot of whiskey before you go onstage helps loosen up your vocal cords.

Don’t do it if you’re listening. Don’t listen to her. Ignore this lady. She’s crazy.

You might not know Eric Vetro, but you hear his work all the time, on the radio, on the Broadway stage, in films, and on tour. Eric is perhaps the music industry’s most in-demand vocal coach, perfecting the voices of top artists like Ariana Grande, Bette Midler, Rosalia, Rosé, Omar Apollo, Lea Michele, Addison Rae, Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes, Katy Perry, and many, many more. He’s also the guy that every actor seems to call when they get cast in a musical biopic. So, this week on the show, we’re going to talk with the one and only Eric Vetro about this essential but little-explored role in the music industry. Eric Vetro, welcome to On The Record.

Keep watching for more!
