The father of a toddler (3) who was allegedly murdered by his girlfriend says he is devastated and in shock.
Juuso Namuaha (59) claims the suspect acted out of anger after he told her to leave his house. According to him, she accused him of wanting to get back together with the child’s biological mother.
“I told her to leave my house,” Namuaha says. “She said I wanted to get back with the mother of my child. That is not true.”
Namuaha says the suspect had never shown any signs of hostility towards his child. In fact, he says, she was on good terms with the child’s mother.
“There was never any issue between her and my baby. She was even friends with the mother,” he says.
The toddler normally lived with her grandmother, but on the evening of the incident, Namuaha had brought his daughter to his home to spend a few days with him and her siblings.
“I got home around 22h00 and saw that the child was not around. We searched everywhere and even called the police,” he says.
The search continued throughout the night.
“We only managed to find my baby lying dead in the mahangu field in the morning,” the father says.
Police have since arrested the suspect, who is the child’s stepmother, and investigations into the toddler’s death are ongoing.
Authorities indicate that information gathered at the scene and from those present led investigators to establish the relationship between the suspect and the deceased.
The suspect has been arrested and is expected to appear in court soon.
The exact cause of death has not yet been confirmed and will be determined through a post-mortem examination.
Police have urged members of the public to remain calm and allow the investigation process to unfold.
