Winky D makes history as Braai Festival’s most headlined act

ZIMDANCEHALL kingpin Wallace Chirumiko popularly known as ‘Winky D’ will etch his name in the annals of the Castle Lager Braai Festival history as the only artist to have headlined most editions of the annual fiesta.

Winky D is set to headline the festival for the sixth time when he performs next week at the Glamis Arena.

Also known as ‘Gafa’ has become a perennial performer and mainstay of the fiesta, which is arguably one of the most sought-after events on the entertainment calendar.

Winky D was the headline act in 2019, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025, cementing his status as the cornerstone of the festival, which is entering its 11th edition.

Owing to his energetic performances on stage, Winky D has become a drawcard for the annual event.

This year, he will be supported by Ex Q and Enzo Ishall, alongside Jnr Spragga, Atenda Chinx and DJ Loz.

The festival organisers said in a statement that the mix of experienced and upcoming talent is a commitment to herald local artists.

“This blend of established and upcoming artists reflects Castle Lager’s continued commitment to supporting and celebrating Zimbabwean music talent.

“In the lead-up to the Castle Lager Braai Day Festival, consumers will have an opportunity to participate in nationwide trade activations at popular braai venues.

“Event tickets, chilled Castle Lager and a range of other prizes will be available to be won as excitement builds towards the main event,” read the statement.

Organisers have dumped international acts, having dropped South African artists in the past two editions. Kamo Mphela performed at the 2024 edition, while DJ Tira and Heavy K featured last year.

Tickets for the festival have been priced at US$15.
