Carnival’s Private Island in The Bahamas Just Added a New Tiki Bar, a Bigger Beach, and More Access

A longer stretch of white sand. New beach bars pouring tropical cocktails. More places to grab lunch by the water. And now, for the first time, Carnival’s largest ships can pull right up to the island.

Carnival Cruise Line has officially completed a major round of upgrades at RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay, its private destination in The Bahamas, adding new beachfront amenities, dining venues, transportation improvements, and a new pier that dramatically expands the number of guests who can visit.

The project marks one of the most significant enhancements in years for a destination that has long ranked among the most popular private islands in the Caribbean.

A Bigger Beach Experience

The centerpiece of the expansion is an enlarged beachfront area with additional white-sand shoreline and new guest amenities designed to make beach days easier and more comfortable.

Carnival has added complimentary loungers and umbrellas across the destination, along with new cabanas and daybeds available for reservation.

The additions give travelers more places to settle in along the island’s signature stretch of sand and shallow turquoise water, one of the defining features that has made Half Moon Cay a favorite stop for cruise passengers for decades.

Five New Food and Drink Venues

The cruise line has also expanded the island’s dining and beverage lineup with a collection of new venues positioned close to the beach.

The additions include Orchid Beach GrillHibiscus Beach GrillLuna Tide Beach BarStay Awhile Beach Shack, and Lil’ Tiki Bar.

Guests will find island-inspired dishes, buffet offerings, tropical cocktails, cold beer, and shaded areas overlooking the shoreline.

The new venues join existing food and beverage options as Carnival continues to invest in a more resort-style experience across its private destinations.

A Major Change for Carnival’s Largest Ships

Perhaps the biggest operational upgrade is the opening of a new pier.

Until now, guests visiting Half Moon Cay arrived by tender boat from anchored cruise ships offshore. The new dock allows ships to berth directly at the island, creating a faster and more streamlined arrival process.

The change also means Carnival’s Excel-class ships can now call on the destination for the first time.

Those vessels include some of the line’s largest and newest ships, significantly expanding the number of passengers who will be able to experience Half Moon Cay in the years ahead.

According to Carnival, 22 ships across its fleet currently visit RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay.

Getting Around the Island

Carnival has also added a new tram system designed to connect different areas of the destination.

Guests who prefer to explore on foot will find a newly created Papaya Pathway, a scenic walking route linking key sections of the island.

Additional enhancements are continuing on the south side of the destination, where Carnival says refreshed design elements and upgraded food-and-beverage facilities are also being introduced.

The island’s popular excursions and activity programs will remain available.

Part of a Bigger Caribbean Strategy

The upgrades come as cruise lines continue investing heavily in exclusive destinations throughout The Bahamas and wider Caribbean.

Private islands and beach clubs have become increasingly important differentiators for cruise brands, giving travelers access to controlled beach environments with dedicated amenities, food, entertainment, and shore experiences designed specifically for their guests.

RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay is part of Carnival’s Paradise Collection, a portfolio of exclusive destinations across The Bahamas and Caribbean.

“RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay’s natural beauty has always made it a favorite for our guests, and with the new pier, more ships can now easily access this incredible destination,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “We’re excited that more guests than ever will be able to experience the stunning beachfront and turquoise waters.”

What It Means for Travelers

If you’re booking a Carnival cruise to The Bahamas or Caribbean, there’s now a good chance your itinerary will include a more expansive version of Half Moon Cay than in years past.

The biggest difference may be convenience. Direct ship docking, additional beachfront capacity, more dining options, and improved transportation around the island should make visits smoother even as passenger volumes increase.

For travelers, that means more time on the beach, more places to eat and drink, and easier ways to enjoy one of the most popular private island destinations in the Caribbean.
