Celebrate Earth Day with community garden prep at Westlawn

In honor of Earth Day, HACM is bringing together residents, partners, and volunteers for a hands-on day of community building and spring preparation at Westlawn Gardens.

On Saturday, April 25, Westlawn residents will be joined by HACM staff, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee students, faculty and alumni, Teens Grow Greens, and other community members for the annual “Sprucing Up for Spring” garden prep and park cleanup day day.

Volunteers of all ages will help prepare the community garden for the growing season by moving and adding compost, clearing garden beds for planting, painting nameplate signs, and sanitizing tools and shared spaces. The event is a chance to support local food access efforts while connecting with neighbors and partners in a meaningful way.

The event runs from 9 AM to 12:30 PM at the Westlawn Community Gardens, 6213 W. Custer Ave., and will take place rain or shine. Lunch will be provided for all volunteers.

Families are welcome to participate. Children must be supervised by an adult throughout the event.
