Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) confirmed that the fuel leak incident involving a storage tank at its former storage facility on Friars Hill Road has been contained.
Speaking to Observer Media, following a press release issued on the incident, Corporate Communications Officer of APUA Anazette Reynolds provided an update.
“As of last night, we have successfully contained the seepage of the fuel oil that was coming from the tank that is located in the former power station at Friars Hill Road,” she said.
The Communications Officer added that APUA’s focus over the next few days will be two-fold: the cleanup process and the removal of the absorbent material that was used in the area.
Reynolds further said the company’s response will adhere to established protocols and guidelines received from the Department of Environment, along with the directives from National Solid Waste, NODS and the other agencies who assisted during the incident.
She expressed gratitude to the general public and various agencies for their support and patience.
