Gauteng police have arrested three suspects aged between 23 and 25 and successfully rescued a 30-year-old victim in Kagiso, on the West Rand.

Police say the victim was abducted during a house breaking incident in area on Friday.

They say the kidnappers demanded R500 000 ransom. According to police the suspects were arrested during an intelligence-driven operation.

Gauteng Police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi says police seized a white Suzuki bakkie, bank cards, and cellphones believed to have been used in the commission of crime.

“Through intelligence-driven operation and technical surveillance, the team traced the suspects to a premises in Tshepisong Phase 1. Three suspects were apprehended at the scene and the team further seized a white Suzuki bakkie, Capitec bank cards, and cellphones believed to have been used in the commission of crime. The victim has since been reunited with family. All three suspects are expected to appear before Kagiso Magistrate’s Court on 04 May 2026 facing charges of kidnapping and extortion.”

In another incident, a nine-year-old girl who was kidnapped for ransom in March has been rescued and reunited with her family.

Four suspects have been arrested and are expected to appear before a Johannesburg court soon on charges of kidnapping and extortion.
