Celebrity interviews used to follow a familiar formula. An artist released a new album or movie, appeared on a morning show, sat down with a magazine and made the late-night television rounds. Today, that process looks very different.
Social media has transformed the celebrity interview from a scheduled media appearance into an opportunity for real-time connection. Celebrities can speak directly to millions of followers through Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, livestreams and podcasts without waiting for a traditional media outlet to give them a platform.

The rise of creator-led interviews has also changed what audiences expect. Viewers increasingly want conversations that feel personal, spontaneous and entertaining rather than highly rehearsed. A celebrity answering questions in a studio, restaurant, car or backstage hallway can become just as compelling as a traditional television interview.

The 2026 BET Awards offered another example of how digital personalities have entered mainstream entertainment. Comedian and content creator Druski hosted the ceremony, becoming the youngest person ever to host the BET Awards. BET’s programming also incorporated social-first personalities and digital content into the larger awards experience.

For journalists and correspondents, the shift creates both opportunity and responsibility. A strong interviewer must understand the celebrity, the story and the audience while also knowing how to create content that works across platforms. The modern interview is no longer just about asking questions.
It is about creating a moment people want to share.
