Huck’s 20th Anniversary Issue, Wu-Tang Clan is here

Life is a Journey — Fronted by the legendary Wu-Tang Clan’s spiritual leader RZA, we explore the space in between beginnings and endings, and the things we learn along the way.

Beyond RZA, there’s Brazilian women skateboarding pioneer Leticia Bufoni. Gorillaz’s visual mastermind Jamie Hewlett meditating on death. A View from a Bridge’s Joe Bloom on human storytelling. One of the last oyster fishermen on the River Fal. DJ AG. A dive into Vietnam’s hardcore punk scene.

Of course, that’s not all – there’s many more carefully told stories of rebellion and refusal to bend to the norm, wonderfully written reportage and beautiful photography. See below for what Huck’s Editor Josh Jones has to say about the issue in his editor’s letter.

Life is a journey. Learn what you can from it.

Everyone has a different path but we can all learn from each other. That’s what this issue is all about. What have people done, how have they made it through and how can they impart their learnings to the rest of us?

Why are we doing this? Because this issue marks Huck’s 20th birthday. Who better to learn from than the people we respect greatly? This issue is packed with true icons, some famous, some not, but all trying to make the world a better place on their own terms.

Since 2006, we’ve been celebrating subcultures, documenting people doing their own thing up mountains, in the sea, across deserts, in war zones, in recording studios, on half pipes, and much more. We’ve been fighting in the underdogs’ corner, getting wet, getting cold, judging donkey beauty contests (no, really), throwing parties, filming documentaries, and reporting on what matters – all of the time.

I’m proud to be editor for this milestone issue – I first wrote for Huck Issue #5 and have seen it evolve into what it has become today. A hat has to be tipped to everyone who’s worked on Huck in the last two decades, carving out its unique niche. A big thank you to them and also to you for supporting us.

We’ve seen an unbelievable, and not in a good way, change in the world of magazines over the last 20 years. There’s a saying that goes that “there’s no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing” – maybe it’s because Huck’s roots are in skate, surf, punk, and the great outdoors that we’ve been able to weather the storm so far?

We’ve just dressed accordingly.

Enjoy this one, it’s a fantastic issue.

Josh
