It must be proclaimed that Black Authoresses are penning many of the most brilliant manuscripts in the world. Readers who look like them are thrilled to delve into pages the visionaries dedicate their time and lives writing to represent their cultures footprint in literature. Bravo, Ladies!

K.M. Colley joins their ranks with the debut of her first murder mystery novel, The Roaring Ridleys. The scenes are set in 1920’s New York, where seven adopted, famous siblings from places all over the world, are the seven possible suspects. An invasive gossip columnist meets his demise, upon exceeding his limits on overstepping boundaries after stumbling upon too much information on the wealthy and powerful, high-profile Ridley family and he may have been last seen by one of the seven wondrous, possibly murderous heirs that are The Roaring Ridleys.

The historical thriller takes readers on a journey through an elaborate maze to discover whodunit and why, in prominent New York and during the prolific Harlem Renaissance, featuring the mob and shipping lines, secrets and lies, love and money, family ties and bloodlines, with appearances from icons and legends such as, Josephine Baker, Duke Ellington and Langston Hughes.

Keturah began writing poetry as a child and fell in love with folklore and storytelling through watching classic movies with her grandmother. Meeting Morgan Freeman at an early age for the penmanship of her poetry, left her inspired, encouraged and hungry to bring her dreams to life. Years later in adulthood, after a long-term relationship, becoming a mom of a daughter with autism, ending that marriage, acting in notable shows like Queen Sugar, Atlanta, and The Other Black Girl—a brilliant novel turned Hulu miniseries, written by Zakiyah Harris—the actresses spirit brought her back to her first love of writing and to a manuscript she had already written.

Fifteen years ago, while attending Duke University for a writer’s camp with roommates from other countries such as, South Korea, Venezuela, and India, Keturah visualized the 1920’s as the period for The Roaring Ridleys and she began writing. Upon reflecting on the representation of Black People and other non-White cultures in that era after watching the remake of The Great Gatsby, and how they were always in the background, struggling, dancing, or working and were hardly main characters, she began visualizing more varied POV’s of that era. The ones that have been obscured in certain stories that have been told.

Our stories matter, our art matters, and these people need to be highlighted.” – K.M. Colley
