*Taj Jackson is speaking out after a controversial report from the The Wall Street Journal described Michael Jackson as a “stone cold pedophile,” language that ignited renewed debate about how the media portrays deceased public figures.

The article’s framing prompted widespread reaction online, including criticism from fans who argued that the singer’s legacy continues to be unfairly targeted. The controversy quickly expanded into broader discussions about journalism, accountability, and the limits of reporting on historical allegations involving individuals who are no longer alive.

One X user suggested legal action against the publication, arguing that the Jackson family should pursue defamation claims. Taj responded directly to that sentiment, raising concerns about the legal system’s limitations. He wrote, “They write this crap because they know we can’t sue. There are no laws to protect the dead against defamation, slander or libel. It needs to be changed asap. It’s not fair to the living family members.”

Taj Jackson is best known as a member of the R&B/pop group 3T alongside his brothers. As the son of Tito Jackson and nephew of Michael Jackson, he has often publicly defended his uncle’s legacy while addressing ongoing media narratives surrounding the family.

The The Wall Street Journal post promoting the article further intensified the reaction. The caption stated: “Michael Jackson’s celebrity is so blinding, his music so compelling, that it cloaks him with an almost impenetrable shield from the truth: He was a stone cold pedophile, writes Maureen Orth.” The wording ignited backlash across social media, with users disputing the framing and referencing prior investigations and court outcomes involving Jackson.

In a separate post on X, Taj criticized the reporting history of journalist Maureen Orth, referencing past allegations and questioning the credibility of repeated claims about Michael Jackson. “Wait, Is this that same Maureen Orth who wrote a Vanity Fair article stating Michael Jackson was sacrificing cows to cast voodoo spells on director Steven Spielberg. Yes, she actually wrote that and yes it was actually published,” he wrote.

Public response on social media remained sharply divided, with some users criticizing media priorities and others defending the reporting. One fan called out WSJ directly on X, writing, “When will you actually report on Epstein? Diddy? The entire network of pedophiles you’ve conveniently ignored for decades? Better yet — when will you give real victims of horrific abuse a platform to tell their stories, demand real investigations, and push for actual justice against the real criminals? Are you interested in making a difference, or are you just trying to sabotage anyone who threatens the status quo? You didn’t care about Michael Jackson until he became a trending topic again. Yet #EpsteinFiles was trending for months and you could barely be bothered. Why is that?”

Taj’s central message focused less on revisiting allegations and more on what he sees as a legal gap—arguing that families of deceased public figures have no recourse against what he views as damaging or false claims, and calling for reform to address that imbalance.

Michael Jackson faced multiple allegations of sexual abuse involving minors, first in 1993 and again in the 2000s. He reached a civil settlement in 1993 and was later tried in a criminal case in 2005, where he was acquitted on all charges. According to publicly reported findings, the FBI, LAPD, and courts did not uncover evidence leading to charges in other cases and ultimately did not pursue further action against him. Jackson was never criminally convicted of child sexual abuse.

Jackson died in 2009, at age 50, from acute propofol intoxication, ruled a homicide. His personal physician, Conrad Murray, was subsequently found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death.
