Digital rights group says its post about Instagram blocking ‘Alt News’ posts has been blocked
It referred to a story by the factchecker that mentioned Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani.

Non-profit digital rights organisation Software Freedom Law Centre said on Friday that technology conglomerate Meta had restricted in India its Instagram post about the censorship faced by digital fact-checking outlet Alt News.
The action was taken in compliance with the Union government’s Information Technology Rules, Instagram told the organisation.
In July, an Alt News post about the upcoming Bollywood film Chauhaan was removed twice by Instagram. The posts were based on an analysis of the film’s 2.24-minute-long teaser, which described injuries sustained by Kashmiris due to the use of pellet guns as “limited damage”.
In reality, more than 6,000 persons had been injured by pellet guns in Kashmir between July 8, 2016 and February 27, 2017. Out of these, 728 had been hit by pellets in their eyes. At least 54 individuals had their vision impaired due to pellets.
The first Alt News post about the teaser, uploaded on July 1, contained visuals of pellet injuries. After it was taken down, the outlet modified the post and changed the visuals before uploading it again. However, Instagram took down the second version of the post as well.
The third version, which was uploaded after references to Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani were removed, was allowed to remain online.
