Champions-elect Inter Milan surrendered a two-goal advantage on Sunday as Torino battled back for a dramatic 2-2 draw, forcing the Serie A leaders to wait longer before sealing the title.
Despite dropping points, Inter remain firmly in control at the top of the table with 79 points, 10 clear of second-placed Napoli, with only four matches left to play.
Torino sit 13th with 41 points and are now mathematically safe from relegation.
Inter looked on course for another routine victory after Marcus Thuram opened the scoring in the 23rd minute.
The striker met a perfectly delivered cross from Federico Dimarco and powered home a header at the far post.
The visitors continued to dominate and doubled their lead early in the second half when Yann Bisseck rose highest to head in from a Dimarco corner, with the ball crashing in off the post.
Torino, however, refused to surrender. Giovanni Simeone sparked the comeback with 20 minutes remaining, cleverly lifting the ball over goalkeeper Yann Sommer after a smart through pass.
The momentum then shifted completely in Torino’s favour when a handball by Carlos Augusto handed the hosts a penalty.
Nikola Vlasic stepped up confidently and converted from the spot to level matters.
Inter pushed hard for a late winner, but Torino held firm under pressure, with Piotr Zielinski missing a final opportunity in stoppage time.
The draw means Inter are still in command of the title race, but their celebrations will have to wait a little longer after Torino’s spirited fightback in Turin.
