William Kabogo Gitau has announced the launch of a new digital classroom initiative at New Mukuru Primary School in Mukuru kwa Njenga, as part of activities linked to the Connected Africa Summit 2026. The event brought together ministers and delegates from across Africa for an experiential visit aimed at showcasing efforts to expand digital learning in underserved communities.
Speaking at the launch, Kabogo emphasized that digital transformation must start at the foundation of the education system. He noted that equipping young learners with essential digital skills helps expand access to knowledge while fostering creativity, curiosity, and confidence needed in a rapidly evolving global landscape. The initiative features connected classrooms, smart boards, and reliable internet access, forming part of a broader national programme targeting 10,000 schools.
He stressed that the project goes beyond infrastructure, focusing on creating equal opportunities for all children to gain digital literacy and actively participate in the global economy. The programme also aims to empower teachers and address long-standing gaps in education and connectivity, particularly in marginalized areas.
The milestone is supported by Huawei Kenya under its Tech4Good programme, highlighting the importance of public-private partnerships in delivering impactful development projects. Kabogo noted that collaboration between government, private sector, and communities is key to translating policy into tangible outcomes.
The event was attended by senior officials including John Tanui and a delegation of ministers and representatives from several African countries. The initiative underscores Kenya’s commitment to building a digitally empowered, future-ready generation while strengthening education systems across the continent.
