Ministry of Agriculture hosts discussion on Honey Extension Livestock Development

By Zoila Palma:  On August 24, 2026, a kick off meeting to discuss the Honey Extension Livestock Development (HELD) Project funded by the CARICOM Development Fund (CDF) and the Government of Belize was held at the Headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries at the National Agriculture and Trade Show Grounds in Belmopan.

Discussions featured remarks by welcome remarks by CEO Servulo Baeza, opening remarks by Minister of State Luis Alex Balona and keynote remarks by Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries.

The meeting also featured remarks and presentations by Kyron Barker, Program Specialist for the CDF in Belize, as well as presentations by key CDF personnel on aspects such as monitoring and evaluation of projects and procurement.

Participants included stakeholder such as Extension Officers, livestock producers through the Belize Livestock Producers Association and honey producers.

The HELD project is funded by approximately 1.7 million US dollars through the CDF and the Government of Belize, and will focus on strengthening the Extension Service, improving livestock production and the honey industry of Belize in the face of climate change.
