Muni Long reveals double lung transplant

Singer-songwriter Muni Long revealed that she underwent a double lung transplant after doctors said she had only a week to live.

Long, 37, has been public about her decade-long battle with Lupus, but only recently disclosed the latest health update.

Last fall, the Grammy-winning R&B singer was on the road as one of the opening acts on Brandy and Monica’s “The Boy is Mine” Tour. She developed pneumonia in November and wound up in the hospital.

“I never should have taken that tour,” Long told “Good Morning America.” “But there was so much going on in my life where I had to do it.”

In the hospital, doctors told Long she only had a week to live if she didn’t have the transplant.

“They were kind of like, ‘This is not a joke. You need to make a choice’,” Long said. “‘You can either go to hospice, or you can get these lungs.’”

She had initial hesitation that Long said was rooted in vanity – and concerns about her voice.

“But then I look at my son, and I think about how much more life that I have to live,” Long said. “I can’t sing if I’m not here.”
