By Milton Tella – The No To Female Genital Mutilation (NO2FGM Awards) that was launched in March 2026 in London will be celebrating some deserving individuals for their outstanding roles at efforts in ending the barbaric act.

The NO2FGM Awards

The maiden edition of the award to honour efforts of campaigners to end FGM will be held on Saturday 20 June 2026 at the Bush House, London.

According to the organisers, the award ceremony is intended to focus attention on ending FGM and support survivors. The award ceremony is to recognise champions, celebrate unsung heroes, and raise awareness to drive collective action to stop the practice.

The award is the brainchild of Dr Comfort Momoh (h.c) MBE, FRCM, a leading campaigner against FGM for over 40years. The founder of Global Comfort & NO2FGM Awards is an FGM/Public Health Specialist. Dr. Momoh set up UK’s second dedicated FGM clinic at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital. She was awarded an MBE by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth ll in 2008 for services to women’s health.

Female genital mutilation (FGM), also known as female circumcision or cutting is a procedure where the female genitals are deliberately cut, injured or changed, but there’s no medical reason for this to be done.

FGM is usually carried out on young girls between infancy and the age of 15, most commonly before puberty starts. It’s illegal in the UK and is child abuse. It’s very painful and can seriously harm the health of women and girls. It can also cause long-term problems with sex, childbirth and mental health.
