The police at Ondangwa this week arrested a 35-year-old man allegedly linked to a N$385 000 transaction that forms part of an ongoing fraud case involving N$2.1 million stolen from Sanlam Namibia.

Vitalis Nepembe, popularly known as “Dax”, was arrested on allegations of fraud, acting with a common purpose and corruption-related offences.

A source close to the matter told The Namibian that Nepembe allegedly received N$385 000 from Claudia Martin, who is accused of fraudulently claiming approximately N$1.2 million from Sanlam Namibia.

The amount was paid after laboratory results belonging to Elizabeth Elifas were allegedly falsely presented as Martin’s in December 2024 to support a fraudulent chronic illness insurance claim.

Nepembe, who is listed as accused number 21 in the matter, made his first appearance in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

He was remanded in custody and the matter was postponed to 15 June for bail application.
