Supreme Court Rejects Trump’s Birthright Citizenship Order

WASHINGTON (AURN News) — The Supreme Court has rejected President Donald Trump’s attempt to end birthright citizenship, delivering another major defeat to his second-term agenda. In a 6-3 decision, the justices affirmed that children born on American soil automatically become U.S. citizens, a constitutional protection that has stood for more than 150 years.

Trump signed an executive order on his first day in office seeking to deny citizenship to babies born to undocumented immigrants or temporary visa holders. The order would have affected hundreds of thousands of newborns each year.

Every court that reviewed the measure blocked it, and the Supreme Court agreed that it violates the 14th Amendment.

Therefore, birthright citizenship remains the law. But Trump has called on Congress to pass legislation restricting birthright citizenship, arguing lawmakers do not need a constitutional amendment to change the policy.

Legal experts say any such law would face immediate constitutional challenges.
