DAR ES SALAAM: STAKEHOLDERS of the insurance sector have continued providing education to students through the “Bima Debate” competition, organized as part of preparations for Insurance Day celebrations scheduled to begin on June 6, 2026, in Arusha.
The competition brought together secondary school and university students from various institutions with the aim of increasing awareness about the importance of insurance in everyday life.

Speaking at the event, the Eastern Zone Manager of the Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority, Zakaria Muyengi, said the insurance sector still requires extensive public education so that more citizens can understand its benefits and actively participate in insurance services.
Muyengi, who served as the Chief Judge of the competition and the guest of honor, said that providing insurance education to students at an early stage helps build lasting awareness about how insurance services can protect lives, businesses, and property against various risks and challenges.

He also noted that reaching students in schools is part of a long-term strategy to ensure that the next generation develops a positive attitude toward the insurance sector, which continues to grow rapidly in Tanzania.
On her part, the Chairperson of the competition’s organizing committee, Esther Mwamengo, said that society still holds misconceptions about insurance services due to a lack of proper education, a situation that causes many people to fail to recognize the importance of insurance.
Mwamengo added that students who receive such education are expected to become strong ambassadors for promoting the use of insurance within their families and the wider community, emphasizing that education is the foundation for growing the sector in Tanzania.
