DAR ES SALAAM: Twenty contestants selected from different regions of Tanzania and several countries in East and Central Africa have officially arrived at the Ndege Beach camp in Dar es Salaam to begin their journey in the popular talent search competition, Bongo Star Search (BSS).

Speaking to journalists at Azam Media offices in Dar es Salaam, Benchmark Production Director and show organiser Rita Paulsen said this year’s season carries even stronger competition due to the high level of talent that emerged during auditions.

Rita said the group includes 10 Tanzanians, three Kenyans, two Ugandans, three Congolese, as well as a dance group and one comedian from Mbeya.

“The contestants this year are of a very high standard. There is a big difference compared to previous seasons, which shows the growth of the entertainment industry,” said Rita.

She explained that the first stage at camp will focus on introductions, where each contestant will present themselves, share their background, and explain their talent journey.

Rita added that judges had a very difficult time selecting the finalists due to intense competition during auditions.

On the presence of only one comedian, she clarified that although many applied, most did not meet the required professional standards for comedy in the competition.

“This is a competition. There is no favouritism. Everyone has an equal chance to showcase their talent. Comedy is a very demanding skill—it requires creativity and consistency compared to other talents like singing,” she added.

The show, which is broadcast by Azam TV through Sinema Zetu channel, will continue through different elimination stages until a final winner is crowned at the grand finale later on.
