For Ahna Mac, celebrity is becoming about more than television appearances, music and social media attention. The reality television personality, singer and songwriter recently used her growing platform to make a meaningful impact in Linden, New Jersey, helping hundreds of children and families prepare for the new school year.
On Friday, August 28, more than 500 people attended the Youth Bookbag Giveaway and Back-to-School Drive, transforming an afternoon of community giving into an impressive show of support. Families filled the area, with lines reportedly stretching several blocks as children arrived to receive school supplies, access helpful resources and meet Mac.
Known to audiences as a fan favorite from the Zeus Network’s Baddies franchise, Mac has developed a loyal following through her bold personality and memorable presence. Her appearances have included Baddies East, Baddies Caribbean, Baddies Midwest, Baddies Africa and Baddies USA. Away from reality television, she continues to build her career as a singer and songwriter.

In Linden, however, entertainment took a back seat to the community.
Rather than making the day simply about a celebrity appearance, Mac helped use the excitement surrounding her presence to bring attention to resources that could make a difference for local families. Along with the bookbag giveaway, children could receive haircuts on site, while parents had the opportunity to sign their children up for tutoring services available to students in kindergarten through 12th grade.
That combination made the event about more than handing out supplies. It addressed several of the needs families face as children return to the classroom, from having the right materials and feeling confident on the first day of school to receiving additional academic support throughout the year.
The event was presented with Derek Armstead and Linden Parks & Recreation, with support from sponsors and community partners including SM, Sizzy, Blabber, Sprayground, Donnle Crazy Custom Graff and the City of Linden Department of Parks & Recreation.

The turnout also demonstrated the influence entertainers can have when they connect their platforms to a larger purpose. Mac could have arrived, taken photographs with fans and allowed the moment to center on her celebrity. Instead, her presence became part of something much bigger: an opportunity to bring families together around children, education and community support.
For entertainers with large audiences, influence is often measured by
followers, views, streams and engagement. Events like the Linden back-to-school drive offer another way to measure it: by the number of people reached when that influence is directed toward a community need.
For the more than 500 people who attended, the afternoon provided supplies and services. For the children preparing to return to school, it offered encouragement and a memorable way to begin a new academic year. And for Mac, it demonstrated another side of the personality audiences have come to know through television.
In a culture where star power is often measured by how many people are watching, Ahna Mac showed what can happen when that same power is used to bring people together. In Linden, celebrities became a community, and the community showed up in a big way.
