Buffaloes outmuscle Impis to stay top of the table

Buffaloes put the poor first-half performance behind them to recover and win against a stubborn Impis side, 24-7.

By halftime, Impis were leading by 7 points, thanks to a Robert Sentongo try converted by Darren Aine.

Impis started strong, dominating the scrum and forcing the Buffaloes coaches to make two technical changes in the front row. This stabilised the Buffaloes, who were further forced to make another substitute after Hector Twinomugisha was deemed unable to carry on and was taken off for a head injury assessment.

Eventual man of the match, Daniels Otim, was introduced for the injured Twinomugisha, while Hussein Shein came on for Emmanuel Odong, who had a quiet first half.

These two players changed the game, as Shein moved the ball faster than he usually does, often catching the Impis reshuffling back to defence. Otim, on the other hand, brought in new life to the Buffaloes’ attack, breaking lines for fun and scoring a brace of tries while at it.

Otim and Shein’s introduction further sparked creativity in the backline, as Yasin Waiswa and Aaron Tukei finally started ticking and causing problems for Impis. The visiting team tried to fight back, but Aine couldn’t find his kicking boots on the day. The once dominant Impis scrum was now neutralized by Leonard Ndiku and Rodney Takan, and in open play, they didn’t do enough to give their side the go-forward moment with their carries.

This game further exposed the poor discipline from both sides, and that can’t be blamed on the poor playing surface that had already hosted 2 games earlier in the day. Both teams suffered 2 yellow cards each for avoidable offences like a very late charge on a kicker or stretching out a hand to interfere with an attack.
