A 31-year-old Bulawayo man has been sentenced to an effective 15 years’ imprisonment for raping a mental patient.
Tinashe Dombo of Old Luveve appeared at Tredgold Regional Magistrates Court facing a charge of rape perpetrated on a 16-year-old girl.
The State case was that on February 25, 2026, the offender proceeded to the victim’s residence on the guise that he was looking for her uncle.
He then entered the bedroom and lured the victim, who is mentally incompetent and unable to give consent, and raped her.
Medical evidence presented in court proved the sexual attack.
In a statement following sentencing, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said it remains committed to protecting the most vulnerable members of society against criminals who commit heinous offences.
“This heinous act against a mentally incompetent juvenile is a grave violation of human dignity. Crimes of sexual violence will be met with the full force of the law,” NPAZ said.
The NPAZ commended the victim’s bravery and the police for taking action against the offender who deserves to be removed from the community.
