The Sunday, 03 May episode of Carte BlancheCarte Blanche has exposed a near R1 billion housing project linked to the Kusile Power Station that has stood empty for years, raising serious concerns about wasteful spending and accountability.
From the outside, the residential complex appears intact, but a closer look reveals crumbling structures, overgrown weeds and widespread neglect across hundreds of unoccupied units.
Originally built to house contractors working on the power station, the development never accommodated a single resident, even as procurement costs escalated and construction stalled.
Meanwhile, workers were placed in alternative accommodation at additional expense to taxpayers.
The project now stands as a stark symbol of mismanagement, with questions mounting over how such a costly initiative was allowed to deteriorate into a deserted “ghost village.”
