Court Remands Four in Mob Killing of Rugby Star Gongodyo

Four prime suspects in the mob killing of national rugby player Sydney Gongodyo have been remanded to Luzira Prison.

Gongodyo, 27, a resident of Busibanti Zone in Najjera, Wakiso District, was allegedly assaulted to death during the incident.

The suspects;  Obed Mugwisa, Elly Mundoni, Joseph Owino and Henry Kabugo  appeared before City Hall Court Grade One Magistrate Edgar Karakire, where they were charged with the murder of the rugby player.

The accused were not allowed to enter a plea, as the offence is only triable by the High Court. Court heard that the suspects will return on June 23, 2026, for mention of the case.

According to the prosecution, the accused, together with others still at large, on June 5, 2026, at Upper Naguru East Road in Kampala District, with malice aforethought, unlawfully caused the death of Gongodyo.
