Enflame Technology, a Tencent Holdings-backed chipmaker positioned as a domestic rival to Nvidia, surged as much as 188% in its Shanghai trading debut on Friday. The listing gave the company a market capitalisation of 176.4 billion yuan (approximately $24.7 billion).

Shares opened at 410 yuan, well above the issue price of 142.18 yuan. One source recorded an intraday gain of 206%, reflecting the volatility that has accompanied China’s newly listed AI names.

The Shanghai-based firm is the last of the country’s so-called “four little dragons” of artificial intelligence chip design to go public. Its debut caps a run of listings that have drawn heavy retail and institutional interest in domestic alternatives to imported processors.

Demand for locally designed AI accelerators has grown as Chinese firms seek to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers. Washington’s export restrictions on advanced processors have pushed data centre operators and cloud providers toward home-grown options, expanding the addressable market for companies like Enflame.

Investor appetite for Chinese technology stocks has strengthened over the past year, a trend that gained momentum after DeepSeek’s cost-efficient models drew renewed confidence to the sector. Enflame’s reception on Friday extends that pattern into the semiconductor segment.

Enflame designs chips for AI training and inference, competing in a field long dominated globally by Nvidia. Backing from Tencent, one of China’s largest technology companies, has given the firm access to capital and potential deployment channels.

The scale of the opening surge points to continued enthusiasm for domestic AI champions, though such first-day gains have historically been followed by sharp corrections on Chinese exchanges.

Trading in Enflame shares continues on the Shanghai market, where investors will weigh the company’s early valuation against its revenue and order pipeline in the coming sessions.
