The Erongo Red has announced that residents and businesses connected to the Ruby 11kV network will experience a planned power outage on 21 May and 1 June to allow the power utility Nampower to carry out maintenance work on the infrastructure.
In a notice issued on 7 May, the Erongo region electricity distributor engineer for network management, operations, and maintenance, Fillipus Nandiinotya said on 21 May power will go off between 08H30 and 17H30, while on 1 June from 08H00 to be restored at 17H000.
He said the outage will only affect the following areas or businesses: Namwater, the airport, native storage, BC Stone, Rooibank, Namibia Defence Force (NDF) Military Base, Dune 7, and Clean Energy,” he said.
The Ruby 11kV network is a high-voltage distribution system managed by Erongo RED and supplied by NamPower, providing electricity to critical infrastructure near Walvis Bay, including the airport, Namwater substations, Rooikop Army Base, and various industrial customers.
Residents and businesses are advised to treat all installations as live at all times as power may be restored at any time during the mentioned period.
