Ethio Telecom Wins Double Honours at Brand Africa 100 Awards for Second Consecutive Year

Ethio Telecom  has once again emerged as one of Ethiopia’s most admired corporate brands, securing two major honours at the 16th Annual Brand Africa 100: Africa’s Best Brands Awards held in Addis Ababa.

The telecommunications operator was recognised as Most Admired Ethiopian Brand in Telecommunications and Most Admired Ethiopian Brand Doing Good for Society and the Environment, repeating the same double victory it achieved at the previous edition of the awards in 2025.

The recognition comes at a time when Ethio Telecom continues to expand beyond its traditional role as a telecommunications provider, positioning itself as a digital services platform through mobile connectivity, digital financial services, enterprise solutions and national digital transformation initiatives.

Founded in 1894, Ethio Telecom is among Africa’s oldest telecommunications operators and remains one of the continent’s largest telecom providers by subscriber base. Under the leadership of Frehiwot Tamru, the company has accelerated network expansion, digital inclusion programmes and the growth of its mobile money platform Telebirr, helping drive Ethiopia’s transition toward a digital economy.

The Brand Africa 100 rankings are widely regarded as Africa’s leading consumer-led brand study. The research is conducted across approximately 30 African countries representing more than 85 percent of the continent’s population and economic output, measuring consumer admiration and brand perception across multiple sectors.

The consecutive wins reinforce Ethio Telecom’s standing not only as Ethiopia’s leading telecommunications brand but also as one of the country’s most visible examples of a homegrown enterprise earning sustained consumer trust in an increasingly competitive and digitally connected marketplace.

The awards also highlight the growing importance of corporate impact and sustainability in African consumer perceptions, with the “Doing Good for Society and the Environment” category recognising brands whose contributions extend beyond commercial performance to social and environmental value creation.

For Africa, where international brands continue to dominate consumer rankings, Ethio Telecom’s repeat recognition underscores the ability of African brands to build strong national affinity while contributing to broader economic and digital development goals.
