Five cheat death as another helicopter crashes in Kenya

As the world continues being baffled by the ongoing series of aircraft accidents, occurring around the globe, another aviation disaster is being reported from Kenya.

The latest episode involves a helicopter which has crashed in central Kenya on Monday, the 12th of October 2026 with five people onboard.

The aircraft belongs to the Kenya Forest Service.

Reports from Nairobi reveal that Environment Principal Secretary Festus Ng’eno was among five passengers on board, the green chopper but all of the occupants managed to survived the accident.

The PS and other survivors were rushed to South Rift Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatments.

“Our response team is on the ground at Kericho Golf Club, in the Kericho County, following a helicopter crash, working alongside other responders at the scene. All persons on board have been taken to hospital for treatment”, reported the Kenya Red Cross.

So far, there are claims that the chopper pilot, who sustained serious injuries, had attempted to take off despite the bad weather conditions, leading to the accident.

Rift Valley Regional Police Commander Samwel Ndanyi stated that the aircraft, with registration number 5Y-FSK, was carrying five occupants when the incident occurred and confirmed that no fatalities were reported.

Witnesses at the scene described how the helicopter had barely gained altitude before it lost control and plunged back to the ground. The aircraft had not climbed significantly into the sky before the sudden loss of altitude forced it down.

Emergency responders and security personnel moved swiftly to extract those trapped in the wreckage. All injured occupants were subsequently transported to South Rift Hospital, where they received urgent medical attention.

Police Response and Ongoing Assessment as far as Commander Ndanyi is concerned, is that emergency and security teams remain actively engaged at the site, conducting a thorough assessment of the situation.

He indicated that more conclusive information would be made available as investigations into the cause of the crash continue to unfold.

The presence of a senior government official among those involved is expected to draw significant attention to the circumstances surrounding the incident. PS Ng’eno serves as the principal secretary in the ministry responsible for overseeing environment and forestry matters, the same docket under which the Kenya Forest Service operates.
