By Breaking Belize News Staff: Two young men accused in the 2024 double murder of taxi drivers Marvin Cante and Juan Carlos Raymundo have been committed to stand trial in the High Court.
Karl Lindo, 21, of Mile 15 on the Hattieville/Boom Road, and Ronald Steadman Fraser, 20, were committed to stand trial at the October Session of the High Court, which is set to commence on October 17, 2026.
The decision was handed down on Friday, May 29, 2026, in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, following the conclusion of their preliminary inquiry before the Senior Magistrate in Court #2.
The men are accused of murdering Cante and Raymundo, two cousins and taxi drivers from Belmopan. Their dismembered bodies were found in a shallow grave in the American New Site area near Hattieville on Thursday, December 12, 2024.
During the preliminary inquiry, the prosecution submitted more than 150 pages of evidence, including police and witness statements, documentary exhibits, photographs and DVDs, which are expected to form part of the case at trial.
Lindo and Fraser were unrepresented during the PI, though both reportedly indicated that they had sought legal advice. They were further remanded to the Belize Central Prison pending their next appearance before the High Court in October.
Police investigations began after a rented vehicle was found abandoned at Mile 24 on the George Price Highway on November 28, 2024. The engine was still running, no one was inside, and blood was reportedly seen on the rear passenger seat.
The vehicle was later linked to Raymundo, who had rented it from a neighbor. Both Raymundo and Cante were reported missing by their partners after they failed to return home and could not be reached by phone.
Police initially charged three men in connection with the murders. However, on November 28, 2025, the murder charge against Christopher Smith Jr. was withdrawn following directives from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Lindo and Fraser remain on remand.
