Hussein Mbalangu became the third coach to leave his position following the end of the 2025/26 season after URA confirmed not giving him a permanent contact.

The former NEC tactician replaced Alex Isabirye mid-way last season but failed to change the club’s fortunes instead URA finished 11th on the 16-team log with 31 points – their worst in history.

“URA have confirmed they are in the hunt for a new head coach after deciding against giving Hussein Mbalangu a permanent contract,” a statement on the club website read before they confirmed a search for a new coaching staff has begun.

“URA Football Club has officially commenced the process of recruiting a new Head Coach as preparations for the forthcoming season gather momentum,” read part of the statement on the URA website.

“The move follows the expiry of contracts for members of the club’s previous technical leadership structure led by Hussein Mbalangu at the conclusion of the season…,” it added.

The club also confirmed that neither of the coaching staff remains attached to the four-time champions at the moment with all positions available.

“As part of the club’s commitment to a fresh and competitive recruitment process, all coaching positions are being reviewed, with former members of the technical team also invited to apply should they wish to be considered for the new season.”

Mbalangu joins Belgian Jacky Ivan Minnaert and Simon Peter Mugerwa whose contracts were also not renewed by Vipers and Lugazi respectively.

Express head coach Jimmy Kintu and St. Mary’s Kitende coach Hassan Zungu are prime candidates for the job at the moment.
