The MTC Netball Namibia Premier League returns this Saturday, 2 May, with defending champions Namibia Correctional Service (NCS) looking to extend their dominance after securing a third consecutive title last year.
NCS lifted the 2025 crown at the Khomasdal courts, continuing a strong run that has established them as the team to beat in domestic netball. They were followed by Otjozondjupa Nampol, Unam Ogongo and Afrocat Lions, rounding off a season that reflected both consistency at the top and growing competition across the league.
The upcoming campaign also builds on key developments introduced ahead of the new season, including the move towards professionalising the sport. Through the league’s main sponsor, the Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC), players are now set to receive monthly allowances of N$500, while additional support structures such as marketing assistance for clubs are expected to strengthen the league’s overall profile.
Netball Namibia has also continued to benefit from broader institutional support, including government-backed infrastructure plans aimed at improving facilities and long-term development of the sport.
As the new season begins, attention will turn to the league’s newest entrant. Smart Girls from the Kavango East region, Mighty Gunners from Otjiwarongo in the Otjozondjupa region and Wanderers from Windhoek have all earned promotions and will be looking to establish themselves among the country’s elite.
Smart Girls’ arrival adds fresh energy to the competition, bringing regional representation and the ambition to compete at the highest level. Newly promoted teams often face a demanding transition, but they also have the opportunity to reshape the competitive landscape.
With established teams aiming to maintain their positions and new entrants eager to make an impression, the 2026 season is expected to deliver another closely contested chapter in Namibia’s top-flight netball.
