Olive House is Celebrating 25 Years by Inviting You to Give Back for 67 Days

The hope dealers and changemakers behind Oliver’s House are celebrating 25 years of community upliftment by launching 67 days of action, and they want you to be part of the journey.

Benoni, South Africa (11 May 2026) – Twenty-five years ago, Oliver’s House Education Centre started with a simple mission: to bring hope and transformation to the vulnerable communities of the East Rand.

Today, as the team that runs this mission looks back on a quarter-century of impact, they know well that meaningful, lasting change doesn’t happen overnight; it happens when people decide to show up for one another, day after day.

To celebrate this milestone, Olive House is launching the 67 Days of Impact campaign. Starting on 13 May, the team is inviting every South African –from neighbours and students to local business owners– to join them in a 67-day countdown to Nelson Mandela International Day (18 July 2026).

Founded in 2001 as a small soup kitchen in the Benoni CBD, Oliver’s House, also known as Oliver’s Village, has grown into a multi-faceted organisation providing essential services to vulnerable communities.

Today, the organisation’s social programmes include:

  • An Early Childhood Development Centre supporting 120 children aged 1–5
  • Accredited agricultural training programme and agricultural social enterprise gardens
  • Accredited computer training courses
  • A community soup kitchen serving approximately 250–300 meals daily

“All our services are provided free of charge to those who need them most. This campaign is about bringing people together to celebrate what we’ve achieved and to build the future together,” explains Olive House Fundraising & Donor Relations Officer, Marita Dewberry.

A Campaign Built on Action

The 67 Days of Impact campaign encourages participation through a variety of impactful initiatives, including:

  • Partner as a Corporate Impact Sponsor, 67 donations of R6,700 to support the socio-economic development
  • Donate food, toiletries, blankets, stationery or clothing
  • Host a collection drive at your school, church or workplace
  • Support a Mandela Day activity or the organisation’s ECD Centre Fun Run
  • Volunteer at the Soup Kitchen, ECD Centre, Computer Training Centre or Agricultural Gardens
  • Read to the children at our Early Childhood Development Centre
  • Offer mentorship, workshops, internships or skills training to our students
  • Share the campaign on social media and help spread awareness

“Each day of the campaign will feature activities, events and stories showcasing the real impact of community support. Members of the public, corporate partners and community organisations are invited to take part in the campaign and help extend Oliver’s Village’s impact for the next 25 years. Together, every small act creates a lasting impact,” shares Marita.

This isn’t just about a single day of service. It’s about building a habit of kindness that lasts. Whether you have a few hours to spare or resources to share, there is a place for you in this story.
