Somalia’s Ministry of Defence has confirmed a large-scale military operation against Al-Shabab fighters in southern regions, carried out by national forces with support from regional units and international partners.
Authorities said the offensive targeted key militant strongholds in the districts of Jilib, Hagar, and Afmadow across Lower and Middle Juba, long considered strategic bases for the group.
Military officials reported that at least 27 fighters were killed during the operation, including individuals believed to hold key positions within the organization, although further details have not been disclosed.
The offensive combined ground advances by the Somali National Armed Forces and Jubaland security units with precision airstrikes conducted by international partners, targeting hideouts and logistical hubs.
