The Culture Commission Coalition is not waiting.
Today, Chairman Robert Slater formally filed an Open Records Request with the Houston Police Department and the Office of the Inspector General — demanding full public disclosure of every arrest, detention, use of force, and sworn testimony connected to HPD Officer Ashley Gonzalez.
We acknowledge HPD’s investigation. But acknowledgment is not accountability.
There are Black Houstonians sitting in jail right now, people with criminal records, disrupted lives, and shattered futures who have no idea the officer who arrested them is under investigation for documented racial bias. That silence is its own injustice.
The Culture Commission Coalition is demanding:
• Independent review of ALL arrests made by Officer Gonzalez
• Full open records release body cam footage, arrest reports & internal affairs files
• Immediate Brady/Giglio notifications to every affected defendant
• Restoration of public trust in Houston law enforcement
Grounded in Brady v. Maryland, Monell v. Dept. of Social Services, and the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment, our demands are legally sound and morally urgent.
