DAR ES SALAAM: THE Trade Union Congress of Tanzania (TUCTA), in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO), is set to officially launch the Tanzania Migrant Workers Resource Centre (TUCTA-MWRC), aimed at supporting Tanzanians seeking employment opportunities abroad.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam on Friday, TUCTA Deputy Secretary General Rehema Ludanga said the centre, which is scheduled to open on June 11, 2026, has been established through the Better Regional Migration Management (BRMM) project funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (UK-FCDO).

She said the launch event will take place at the WDC Building on Lumumba Road in Dar es Salaam and is intended to strengthen coordination on labour migration issues while ensuring that Tanzanians travelling abroad for work use safe and legally recognized migration channels.

According to Ms Ludanga, TUCTA, as the leading advocate for workers’ rights and interests in Tanzania, established the centre to provide accurate information, guidance and advisory services to Tanzanians seeking employment abroad, as well as foreign workers coming to Tanzania.

“This centre will help ensure that the rights, interests and welfare of migrant workers are protected through clear employment contracts that safeguard their well-being,” she said.

In addition to advisory services, the centre will offer short-term training programmes designed to prepare workers for employment and daily life in their destination countries. The initiative aims to enhance workers’ ability to take advantage of international employment opportunities safely and effectively.

Foreign workers coming to Tanzania will also have the opportunity to join trade unions, ensuring that their rights and interests are adequately represented and protected.

According to TUCTA, the programme supports the implementation of Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050 by contributing to human capital development, expanding employment opportunities and strengthening Tanzanians’ contribution to the national economy.
The initiative is also aligned with the efforts of President Samia Suluhu Hassan to promote economic diplomacy, strengthen international cooperation and create more employment and investment opportunities for Tanzanians.

TUCTA and ILO have invited stakeholders from government institutions, the private sector, trade unions, employers, education and training institutions, financial institutions, civil society organizations, media outlets and development partners to participate in the launch event.
