The United Arab Emirates has eased precautionary entry measures imposed on Ugandan nationals in June following the end of Uganda’s latest Ebola outbreak.
The decision means Ugandans will no longer be subject to the Ebola-related entry restrictions introduced by the UAE on June 6, 2026.
However, precautionary measures affecting nationals of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and South Sudan will remain in place because of the ongoing epidemiological situation in the two countries.
The announcement was made on Saturday by the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA), in coordination with the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) and the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP).
The authorities said the decision followed continued assessment of the Ebola situation and recent public health developments, including the conclusion of the internationally established monitoring period after Uganda ended its outbreak.
The UAE introduced the visa suspension for nationals of Uganda, DRC and South Sudan on June 6 as part of measures to strengthen its preparedness and response to developments related to Ebola.
The UAE authorities said they would continue monitoring regional and international developments related to the virus, with precautionary measures subject to regular review and adjustment depending on changing risk assessments and approved public health standards.
Uganda declared the latest Ebola outbreak over after completing the required monitoring period without recording new cases.
Health Minister Dr Chris Baryomunsi officially declared Uganda Ebola-free at the end of July, following the conclusion of the required 42-day period without new infections.
The outbreak had emerged at around the same time as the DRC reported its latest outbreak.
The DRC is continuing to deal with a major Ebola outbreak, with more than 7,000 cases reported, according to figures released by Congolese authorities earlier this month.
The latest outbreak was officially detected in mid-May, with nearly 3,400 deaths reported, making it the DRC’s 17th Ebola epidemic.
The easing of restrictions on Ugandans comes as the UAE continues to monitor the situation in neighbouring countries and maintain additional measures against countries considered to face ongoing Ebola risks.
