Where Luxury Meets Legacy: Maja Sly Is Turning Access Into Opportunity

Maja Sly isn’t just curating an event—she’s creating a movement. With the Dinner at Dusk Polo Classic, she masterfully blends luxury, culture, and purpose into one unforgettable experience designed to shift mindsets and open doors. Rooted in her journey as a first-generation HBCU graduate, real estate powerhouse, and philanthropist, Maja understands that success isn’t just about resources—it’s about access. By bringing together influential decision-makers, emerging talent, and a community ready to elevate, she’s redefining what it means to be in rooms that truly change lives.

Mo Clark: You’ve built your name in real estate and philanthropy—what inspired you to create an experience like the Dinner at Dusk Polo Classic that merges luxury with purpose?

Maja Sly: Wow, that’s a great question. From a young age, I’ve always been a dreamer. I believe that when people are in the presence of luxury and access, they leave inspired to dream bigger. I’ve always known that our limits are never just about money—money is infinite. But proximity matters. Being around people who are just one degree of separation away allows you to see that you don’t have to have everything figured out to go after your dreams. Sometimes, you simply need to see yourself in others to realize what’s possible.

Mo Clark: “Dinner at Dusk” isn’t just an event, it’s a statement. What does this platform represent for Black excellence, and how do you intend to shift the narrative through experiences like this?

Maja Sly: It has truly grown into something that embodies the “Atlanta” that made me. I opened my first business at 24 in Buckhead, so Dinner at Dusk is a full-circle moment. I live by the motto “The Power of One”—it only takes one person, one introduction, or one opportunity to change everything. What I’m most proud of is creating a space where you can meet decision-makers across industries—zoning, banking, tech, entertainment—all in one room. These aren’t people just talking about what they want to do—they’re actively doing it. That kind of access shifts narratives in real time.

Mo Clark: You’re intentionally creating access for HBCU students to connect with power players—why was it important for you to bridge that gap in such an elevated setting?

Maja Sly: This comes directly from my own experience. As a first-generation college graduate from an HBCU, I understand that there are limits to what traditional job fairs and recruitment efforts can provide. But through our network, we have direct access to hiring managers at Fortune 100 companies—sometimes it only takes a phone call to get our scholars in the room. They still have to compete—they’re not being handed anything—but they’re gaining access to spaces they wouldn’t typically be exposed to. And that access can change everything.

Mo Clark: Luxury, culture, and community don’t always occupy the same space. How are you redefining what luxury looks and feels like for our culture through this event?

Maja Sly: My Nana always said, “If you don’t like how something’s being done, then do something about it.” I’ve been incredibly fortunate to experience a wide range of spaces throughout my career, and what I’ve learned is that people who value community and culture also enjoy elevated experiences. This is Atlanta—we love to get dressed up, but we also love T.I. playing in the background. Redefining luxury means creating spaces where we don’t have to choose between who we are and how we show up—we can have both.

Mo Clark: As a visionary building legacy-driven experiences, what do you want attendees—especially young Black professionals and students—to walk away with after attending the Polo Classic?

Maja Sly: I want them to leave knowing that we all have a role to play in moving the needle forward. Everything we’ve built as a community over the last 60 years is under pressure, and we can’t afford to take our foot off the gas. Progress requires money, resources, and collaboration. Investing in education for our young people and creating pathways to homeownership isn’t optional—it’s our responsibility. That’s the takeaway: we all have a part to play, and it starts with showing up and pouring back in.

At its core, the Dinner at Dusk Polo Classic is more than a moment—it’s a call to action. Maja Sly is reminding us that legacy isn’t built alone; it’s created through connection, collaboration, and intentional investment in the next generation. From opening doors for HBCU students to reshaping how luxury looks and feels within our culture, she’s proving that we don’t have to choose between excellence and authenticity—we can embody both. And as the sun sets on this signature experience, one message remains clear: the future belongs to those bold enough to show up, step in the room, and reach back while climbing forward.
