A HARARE woman has been jailed for biting off her neighbours ear during a scuffle over suspected infidelity.
Bridget Jengwa (24) of Churu farm, Glenview appeared before Mbare Magistrates Court where she was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment for a violent assault on a 21-year-old neighbour.
However, of the 12 months’ sentence, Jengwa will spend an effective nine months behind bars after three months were set aside on condition of good behaviour.
Court heard that on April 20, 2026, the offender confronted the victim at her residence, accusing her of having an extramarital affair with her husband.
It was further heard that despite efforts by the victim’s mother to mediate the dispute, Jengwa remained in a state of rage. In a shocking display of violence, the offender assaulted the victim with open hands before dragging her and biting off a portion of her right ear. Jengwa spit the severed piece of the ear on the floor and fled the scene.
The victim bled profusely and was rushed to hospital where it was certified that she sustained permanent disfigurement as a result of the attack.
In a statement following sentencing, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) urged the public to resort to peaceful ways to resolve disputes.
