Woman granted $800 bail after allegedly threatening to burn down her sister’s home with sister and children inside

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 38-year-old Belize City woman has been granted bail after being charged with threat to damage property following an alleged family dispute in which she is accused of threatening to burn down her sister’s home.

Shantae Robateau, a customer care representative, appeared in court unrepresented and pleaded not guilty to the charge. Police allege that during an incident on July 31, 2026, Robateau threatened her sister, saying she would burn down the house while she and her children were inside.

According to the police report, the sister told investigators that she was at her Ebony Street home at around 9:15 p.m. when Robateau allegedly arrived outside the residence carrying a piece of 2-by-4 wood, shouting and demanding that Jones come outside.

The complainant reportedly contacted their older brother, who lives nearby, and asked him to intervene. Police say that as efforts were made to remove Robateau from the property, she allegedly threatened to physically harm her sister and later threatened to burn the house down with her sister and her children inside.

The woman subsequently made a report to police, prompting an investigation. Robateau later turned herself in to police and was charged.

At her arraignment, the prosecution did not object to bail but requested that conditions be imposed. The Magistrate granted Robateau bail in the sum of $800 with one surety of the same amount.

As part of her bail conditions, she must report to the Raccoon Street Police Station every Friday between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. and attend all scheduled court appearances.

The case was adjourned until October 13, 2026.
