When the sirens couldn’t reach her, their dedication did: A woman has sent a huge shoutout to the KZN medics who raced to her home in a car to save her collapsed housekeeper, proving that true heroes always find a way.
Durban, South Africa (08 May 2026) – Nothing could have prepared Lynette Ganesan and her husband, Clive, for the moment they found their housekeeper collapsed in her room on Monday morning.
The day had started as any other. Lynette had let their housekeeper, Pretty, sleep in and rest as she had been suffering from flu-like symptoms over the weekend.
“We gave her flu meds and made plans to take her to our GP this morning,” Lynette shares in a Facebook post.
But when Clive went down to her room to check on Pretty, he was shocked to find her son, Hlelo, getting himself ready for school and Pretty lying unconscious on the bed.
“He quickly closed the door and rushed to tell me. He decided not to go into the office, dropped Noah off at school, and returned home to assist. In the meantime, I had managed to contact her sister, whose employer sent her to me, in an Uber,” Lynette recalls.
Attempting to personally take Pretty to get medical assistance themselves proved nearly impossible as she was unresponsive and their property had a lot of flights of stairs.
Lynette called a state ambulance, where she was told she was number 10 in the queue of people awaiting assistance.
“Over the next three hours, I called a few times, letting them know the urgency. By this time, we’d tested her blood sugar and realised it was very high. She’s not a diabetic patient. We realised that she was probably in a diabetic coma.”
Though there were no ambulances available at the time, KZN Emergency Medical Services sent a car to their home with two paramedics to help stabilise Pretty.
“These two gentlemen handled the situation so kindly and efficiently. They stabilised her and waited with us until the proper ambulance arrived and were able to send more manpower to assist with getting her up the stairs and into the ambulance.”
Lynette expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the medics who worked tirelessly to assist them during their emergency, especially given the very limited resources available.
“Emergency medical personnel don’t receive nearly enough recognition for the incredible work they do. We are truly grateful to the KZN emergency medical services.”
We join Lynette in applauding this dedicated medical team, whose presence and actions helped save a woman in her most critical hour. We wish Pretty a smooth and full recovery.
