Zambia Under-15 boys face a must-win encounter against Senegal following a 2-0 defeat to Benin that has dented their hopes of progressing at the ongoing CAF African Schools Championship in Harare.

The setback comes after Zambia had shown promise in their opening fixture after they held reigning champions Tanzania to a 1-1 draw.

Heading into the Benin match, victory was crucial to boost their chances of advancing, but defensive lapses proved costly. Benin capitalised early and punished Zambia within minutes after a poorly defended set piece.

Benoit Dossooyoyo, wearing jersey number 17, found the back of the net after Zambian defenders failed to clear their lines in the 6th minute.

The West Africans doubled their advantage when Bachiro Mamam (19) finished off a swift counterattack, in the 36th minute again exposing Zambia’s defensive frailties following a lost corner.

The result leaves Zambia with a mountain to climb, as they now prepare to face a confident Senegalese side that has already secured qualification with six points. Senegal recorded a 1-0 victory over Benin and a thrilling 3-2 win against Tanzania earlier in the competition.
