Cape Town – Police have seized 41,000 mandrax tablets worth an estimated R2.05 million and arrested a 44-year-old Zimbabwean truck driver in Kraaifontein.
The arrest followed a joint operation by the South African Police Service’s Flying Squad and Crime Intelligence on Sunday, 13 September 2026.
According to SAPS, the operation was based on intelligence about a Volvo truck allegedly transporting drugs from Johannesburg to Cape Town.
“The team acted on intelligence received about a Volvo truck transporting drugs from Johannesburg to Cape Town,” SAPS said.
Police spotted the truck at a petrol station on the N1 in Kraaifontein and stopped it for a search.
“ A search was conducted, and police found two duffel bags containing mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R2.05 million,” the statement said.
The suspect was arrested for possession of drugs and dealing in drugs.
He is expected to make his first court appearance at the Kuils River Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 14 September 2026.
The case forms part of ongoing police efforts to disrupt the movement of drugs into the Western Cape.
