A little boy’s love for his dog inspired a wonderful act of kindness. Simba now has a safe and secure kennel to show for it!
Hermanus, South Africa (14 May 2026) – Wags n Whiskers, an NPO dedicated to the protection, care and well-being of animals in Hermanus, recently shared a story that moved us.
The team had gone back to check in on Simba at his family’s home after treating him for a sore paw. They were thrilled to find that he had been steadily improving on anti-inflammatory meds and starting to put his weight back on his paw again.

While Simba recovered, his young owner had been busy.
Because the family’s youngest grandchild is frightened of Simba, he has to sleep outside. It is unfortunate, but that does not mean that this doggie does not have love in his corner.
His owner, 13-year-old Sihle, cares for him deeply. So much so that he and a friend had been attempting to build Simba a comfortable kennel to rest in.
“The boys were trying their very best to build Simba a kennel themselves.” the team shared.
The structure was small, rustic, and made from whatever materials they could find – bricks, bits of wood, plastic, a sheet of corrugated iron and an old cupboard door.

“Seeing this young boy trying so hard to protect and care for his dog, honestly tugged at our heartstrings.”
Knowing how desperately Sihle wanted provide a safe shelter for his four-legged best friend, the Wags n Whiskers team put out a call for help to their supporters online. They asked for a medium to large dog kennel that would make an enormous difference to Simba and Sihle.
“Sihle truly loves his dog. He is doing the very best he can with the limited resources he has access to, and we would so love to help this young boy give Simba the warm, safe shelter he deserves.” the organisation shared, “Please help us show Sihle that kindness and compassion still exist.”
Less than a day later, regular supporters of the NPO, High Season Farm, saw the cry for help and stepped in to make a difference. They had gone out to purchase not one but two kennels for Simba and another dog in need!
“We received a message this morning to say the kennels had been paid for and that we could go and collect them. When we arrived and saw the size of the kennels… no matter how we tried, we simply could not fit them into the vehicle!”

As these stories often go, once kindness starts, it snowballs. Two kind gentlemen saw that Wags n Whiskers were struggling with the task of loading the kennels for delivery and offered their help.
“As luck would have it, two kind gentlemen came over and asked if we needed help transporting them. They had a trick or two up their sleeves — and before long, both kennels were loaded and on their way.”

Along with a generous donation of dog food, Simba received his kennel yesterday!
“Thanks to your generosity, these two dogs will be sleeping warm and cosy tonight, sheltered from the cold and rain.” the NPO shared. “From the dogs, their grateful owners, and all of us at Wags n Whiskers – thank you for helping change these animals’ lives for the better.”
