*Online conversation surrounding Aaliyah has intensified following the reissue of her 1994 debut album “Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number,” with much of the attention focused on how the project is visually presented decades after its original release.

According to Billboard, fan reactions emerged after the estate of Aaliyah amplified interest in the reissue by sharing a TikTok video of a listener playing the newly released vinyl edition of the album. In the clip, the album artwork featuring R. Kelly had been physically altered, with a sticker placed over his face on the front cover and the user also covering his image on the back sleeve with their hand.

The video sparked broader discussion among fans about how the album should be presented in its reissued form. Some argued that the estate should digitally remove R. Kelly’s image from the cover art. The renewed attention also came as the estate promoted the re-release, sharing a message encouraging fans to revisit the project. The post urged listeners to enjoy the album’s 90s sound while sharing their copies with “Team Aaliyah” on social media.

“Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number” became a commercial success upon release, reaching No. 18 on the Billboard 200. It also produced hit singles including “Back & Forth” and “(At Your Best) You Are Love.”

Aaliyah’s early teen career was closely tied to R. Kelly, who played a major role in writing and producing the album when she was 15. Their professional relationship later became the subject of long-standing public scrutiny following reports of a marriage in 1994 that was later annulled.

R. Kelly was acquitted on child pornography charges in 2008. Years later, in 2022, he was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison after being convicted on federal charges of racketeering and sex trafficking.
