Mykiyaa and Joshua met on Hinge in December 2020 during the height of the pandemic. Before their first date, Joshua discovered that Mykiyaa’s twin brother was a fellow member of his fraternity (Kappa Alpha Psi), who immediately vouched for him and encouraged the connection. They had their first date about a month later, a hike at Kenneth Hahn Park and have been together ever since.
After nearly six years of being together, building a life filled with adventures, family traditions, and countless memories, the couple tied the knot in a romantic California ceremony. Set within the lush landscape of Coyote Hills Golf Club in Fullerton, California, their wedding embraced timeless elegance through a refined palette of white, champagne, gold, and black. Rather than competing with the venue’s natural beauty, the design complemented it.
Throughout the planning process, the couple intentionally partnered with Black and minority-owned businesses whenever possible. With the guidance of their planner and designer, Helayne Nicholson of The Road To Marriage, they assembled a creative team that reflects both their values and the community they were proud to support.

Briefly tell us about your wedding experience and how the both of you felt on your big day.
Our wedding day was everything we had hoped for and more. From the moment we saw each other, we were overwhelmed with excitement, gratitude, and love. Being surrounded by our family and friends made every moment even more meaningful, and seeing everyone together to celebrate our journey was truly unforgettable. The day seemed to fly by, but we made a point to pause, take it all in, and appreciate every smile, laugh, and happy tear. It was the perfect beginning to our next chapter as husband and wife, and a day we’ll cherish for the rest of our lives.
Wedding song, and the significance of the song:
Our wedding song was “Every Time I Close My Eyes” by Babyface. The song beautifully captures the feeling of finding the person you’ve always dreamed of and being grateful for a love that feels almost too good to be true. Its heartfelt lyrics reflect the deep love, appreciation, and commitment we share, making it the perfect song to celebrate the beginning of our marriage.
What are you most looking forward to as a married couple?
We’re most looking forward to continuing to build a life together. Creating new memories, traveling, growing as partners, and one day starting a family. Marriage marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter, and we’re excited to face every adventure, challenge, and milestone side by side. Above all, we look forward to supporting one another through every season of life and growing old together.
