By Zoila Palma:  Today, the Belize Water Services (BWS) informed that Belize has been selected as the host country for the Latin American Sanitation Conference (LatinoSan 2029), following its unanimous nomination at the 2026 conference in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

The nomination was formally accepted by the Dominican Republic’s Minister of Public Health, Dr. Victor Atala, with Belize represented by Belize Water Services Limited (BWSL) Executive Chairman Cornelio Acosta.

LatinoSan is the leading regional forum on water, sanitation, and hygiene in Latin America and the Caribbean. Held every three years, it brings together government leaders, utilities, development partners, academics, and civil society to share experience, shape policy, and advance solutions that expand access to safe water and sanitation.

“Belize’s selection is a historic milestone, making it the first English-speaking country to host the conference. The decision reflects Belize’s growing leadership in the sector and offers a platform to showcase its progress, innovation, and commitment to sustainable development, while strengthening its role as a bridge between the English-speaking Caribbean and Latin America,” BWS noted.
